It is traditionally said when someone converts to Roman Catholicism, that he has spiritually “Swum the Tiber”.
I would never abandon those sacred waters entirely...
...but the area around Rome has become too polluted. They are no longer Living Waters. So to escape the sewage, I am swimming Upstream, up, up to the source. As the water becomes cleaner I feel revitalized, and hear the increasingly the sacred chants of Old.
At last, I find myself out of Time, to where Rome Once was, and will be again someday by the Grace of God, in Western Orthodoxy.
